Dear listeners,

Welcome to the sixth episode of the Politics and Public Finance Podcast!

For this interview, I was joined by Jeff Sahedo Assistant Professor of Political Science at Carleton University, whose research and teaching focuses on Eastern European and Russian politics.

A graduate of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Sahedo spent three years teaching at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville before joining the faculty at Carleton. He has been the director of the Institute of European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies at Carleton since 2018. An award-winning researcher, Jeff has received international recognition for his books Voices from the Soviet Edge and Russian Colonial Society in Tashkent.

Drawing on Professor Sahadeo’s deep knowledge of the political and cultural dynamics of Eastern Europe and Russia, this podcast interview goes beyond the headlines to understand the political environment in Russia. We talk about access to information and framing of the Russian invasion within Russian media and political circles. To provide context for these current events, Jeff contrasts the 2022 and 2014 Russian aggression, and speculates on what might happen after the war.
